About FlameMasks

"FlameMasks" were created in 2001 by Kevan Bence, aka KB Kustoms.

Being a long time airbrush artist (since 1979), and Diecast customizer (since 1998), KB started out with an idea to develop a system in which would make it relatively easy for anyone to apply their own PAINTED On graphics for their customized Hot Wheels projects. Much time and effort went into the initial development/research..not to mention the "original designs" themselves!

The first designs started as pencil sketches then were digitized and refined on the computer. Many of the current designs started out this way too.

An outside vendor was sought and eventually, found to do the actual production sheets of the "Generation One" FlameMasks. This was generally a good plan, but limited in that setup costs for "new" designs made things a little difficult. Thus, there were only two sheet designs available for the first couple years. Production time and costs were also a critical factor. Some major delays were encountered because of failed vendor promises during that time as well.

All the above factors attributed to the inevitable...and in 2003...the proper, professional equipment was purchased to produce the FlameMasks "in-house" and since then...MANY (currently over 40) new designs have been implemented into the lineup! Plus, the actual development and testing is quicker and more complete, leading to a much better overall product.
